Jim and collaborators received a grant to study trade-offs between ecosystem services from the Institute for Working Forest Landscapes, a program in the OSU College of Forestry.
Jim and collaborators received a grant to study ecosystem services in early successional forests from the Agricultural and Food Research Initiative Program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Among other topics, this project will include characterizing plant-pollinator network in early seral forest communities and assessing the impacts of herbicides on native bee diversity.
Amy Comstock received 1st place overall for her poster titled "An Investigation of Avian Use of Created Snags in Managed Forests" at the 2014 Western Forestry Graduate Research Symposium. Nice job Amy!
Jim received the 2014 Dean's Award for Outstanding Achievement as a Faculty Researrch Assistant. This award was given to him for his "outstanding efforts in research, teaching, and mentoring in wildlife-forestry research."
Jim and collaborators received a grant to study wildlife use of created snags from the Fish and Wildlife Habitat in Managed Forests Research Program of the OSU College of Forestry. This investigation will quantify the contemporary characteristics of snags that were created by experimental topping of Douglas-fir trees 25 years ago, and assess how these resources are used by birds for foraging and nesting substrates at the current time.
